Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 36-hour fast?

A 36-hour fast means going without food for 36 consecutive hours. For example, if you finish dinner at 7 PM on Monday, you would not eat again until 7 AM on Wednesday. This type of extended fast allows your body to progress through all six metabolic stages, including autophagy.

How do the fasting stages work?

Your body goes through six distinct metabolic stages during a 36-hour fast: Fed State (0-4h) where nutrients are absorbed, Early Fasting (4-8h) where blood sugar stabilizes, Glycogen Depletion (8-12h) where stored glucose is used, Fat Burning (12-18h) where ketone production begins, Deep Ketosis (18-24h) where fat burning accelerates, and Autophagy (24-36h) where cellular cleanup and renewal occurs.

Can I edit my start time?

Yes! If you forgot to start your fast at the right time, you can tap on the "Start" time shown on the active fast screen and adjust it to when you actually began fasting. This ensures your progress tracking remains accurate.

What notifications will I receive?

Fast36 sends you milestone notifications as you progress through each fasting stage. You'll be notified when you enter a new stage (like Fat Burning or Autophagy) and when you're close to completing your fast. You can customize these notifications in the Settings.

Is my data stored online?

No. All your fasting data is stored locally on your device only. Fast36 does not require an account, does not connect to any servers, and does not collect any personal information. Your fasting history and settings stay completely private on your iPhone.

Can I skip a week?

Yes! If you have a scheduled fast but can't do it this week, simply tap "Skip This Week" when you receive the reminder. The app will skip the current week and remind you again the following week at your scheduled time.

Is it safe to fast for 36 hours?

For most healthy adults, occasional 36-hour fasts are generally considered safe. However, fasting is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with eating disorders, those with certain medical conditions, or people taking medications that require food. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any fasting regimen.

What can I consume during the fast?

During your fast, you can have water, black coffee (no sugar or cream), and plain tea. Staying hydrated is important. Avoid any caloric beverages, sweeteners, or foods as they can break your fast and interrupt the metabolic benefits.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout your fast. Herbal tea and black coffee are also acceptable.

Start After Dinner

Beginning your fast after dinner makes the first 8-10 hours easier since you'll be sleeping.

Stay Busy

Keep yourself occupied with activities. Light exercise, reading, or work can help distract from hunger.

Break Fast Gently

End your fast with easily digestible foods. Avoid large, heavy meals immediately after fasting.
